Rio Bravo (1959)

Along with High Noon (1953), Rio Bravo is one of those "classic" Westerns that I believe doesn't really deserve the title. As a lifelong fan of John Wayne, it pains me to criticize any movie starring the Duke. John Wayne definitely perfects his iconic image in this movie, but overall, it fails to live up to its potential and the story drags on far longer than it needs to.

However, that being said, I'm very disturbed by how few John Wayne movies most people have seen. Not being familiar with the John Wayne canon is positively un-American. So, for those who haven't seen enough John Wayne movies, I recommend The Searchers, The Quiet Man, Hondo, and True Grit.

Get out there and watch them.
